Contacts & Segments

Build and manage audiences for your broadcasts.

Importing Contacts

Visit /segments/import to upload a CSV file with customer phone numbers and metadata.

Required field: phone_number in E.164 format (e.g., +201001234567).

Optional fields: name, email, custom_field_1, custom_field_2, etc. All fields become contact properties you can filter on.

Steps:

  1. Click Import Contacts
  2. Upload your CSV file (max 10,000 rows per upload)
  3. Review field mapping — confirm phone number column
  4. Confirm import — contacts are stored immediately

Result: Contacts appear in your contact library and are available for segment filtering.

Understanding Segments

A segment is an audience definition — either dynamic (filter-based, updates as contacts change) or static (frozen at creation time).

Dynamic Segments

Filter contacts on any property: phone number prefix, name contains, custom fields, channel connectivity, last message date, etc.

To create a dynamic segment:

  1. Go to /segments/create
  2. Click Add Filter
  3. Choose property (phone, name, email, custom fields, etc.) and condition (contains, equals, starts with, etc.)
  4. Add multiple filters — contacts matching ANY filter are included
  5. Name the segment and save

The segment refreshes automatically as you add/update contacts. Use dynamic segments for evergreen audiences like "Trial users" or "Region: Cairo."

Static Segments

A frozen snapshot of contacts at creation time. Useful for one-time campaigns where you want to know exactly who receives the message.

To create a static segment:

  1. Go to /segments/create
  2. Build your filters as above
  3. At the final step, choose Snapshot (instead of Dynamic)
  4. Save

A static segment has a fixed membership. New matching contacts added later are not included.

Duplicate & Export

From the segment list (/segments), you can:

  • Duplicate a segment — creates a copy with a new name and filters
  • Export as CSV — download all contacts in the segment with all their properties

Managing Segments

Go to /segments to:

  • View all segments (count, last updated)
  • Search by name
  • Edit filters (dynamic segments only)
  • Delete segments

Deleting a segment does not delete its contacts — only the filter definition is removed. Contacts remain in the system.
